On Monday of fair week, after carefully grooming their goats, the kids took them to the fairgrounds for weigh-in. They each weighed between 81 and 104 pounds and were four to seven months old. Then they worked hard to decorate their goats' pens. They put up their educational displays and decorated based on the fair theme: "Barnyard Beach Party".At the show on Tuesday, market goat classes went first. In this class the goat is being judged. Vivian's goat was weight champion, so she got to take her goat back into the ring to compete for Grand Champion. Showmanship followed; in this class the kids each compete to see who is best at handling, grooming and showing their goat to its best advantage. Vivian placed 2nd in her class. It is highly competive...there are prizes and money to be won!!!
Vivian, Browning and Guenivere took the championship in the group class, which is the best group of three goats. The goats are judge based on the strenghths and weeknesses of the group of three.
Wednesday, after cleaning pens and feeding, the kids helped their friends with the swine show. In the afternoon the kids were able to walk around and see some of the other parts of the fair.
Thursday was the carcass show and an evening to check out other exhibits.
On Friday, the kids each baked an apple pie as a thank you gift for the person who would buy their goat at the auction on Saturday!
The auction on Saturday was spent as "Auction Runners", where the kids help with getting the buyers through the purchase process, while waiting for their spot on the auction block. All the kids fetched a good price for their animals.
The winner of the clean pen contest was announced on Sunday afternoon as the Independent Club, aka Vivian, Tommy, Browning and Guenivere!!! They got a beautiful new shovel and blue ribbon!!!
